About USDZ to GLTF Conversion

Why convert USDZ to GLTF?

USDZ is Apple's proprietary AR format, a ZIP archive containing USD scene data and embedded textures, designed exclusively for iOS AR Quick Look. It only works on Apple devices. glTF 2.0 is the Khronos Group's open web standard. Supported natively in every browser, Android AR, WebXR, and game engines. Converting USDZ to glTF makes your AR content universally accessible: view on Android, embed in websites, use in game engines, and integrate into production pipelines beyond the Apple walled garden.

What is preserved during conversion?

Our converter unzips the USDZ package, resolves the USD scene data, and extracts mesh geometry, UVs, normals, and textures. UsdPreviewSurface PBR materials are converted to glTF metallic-roughness workflow. Embedded textures are saved as separate image files referenced by the glTF output. USD composition arcs are flattened. Variant sets and USD-specific metadata are not preserved. glTF is a delivery format, not a scene composition format.

How to use the converted GLTF file

Load the glTF with three.js GLTFLoader, Babylon.js, or Google Model Viewer for instant web-based viewing. For AR deployment, use Android Scene Viewer or WebXR. For single-file hosting, convert to GLB using our GLTF to GLB converter. The glTF output is now platform-independent, deploy anywhere, not just iOS.
