Supported: .ply files only

Why Convert PLY to STL?

PLY captures physical objects. STL makes them printable. Convert scans to physical replicas with any 3D printer.

Scan to Physical Object

The complete scan-to-print pipeline: capture a real object with a 3D scanner, convert PLY to STL, slice, and print an exact replica.

Watertight Output

Our converter produces manifold, watertight STL with correct face normals. Scan meshes are repaired and sealed for successful 3D printing.

Reverse Engineering

Scan existing parts, convert PLY to STL, and 3D print replacements. Ideal for vintage parts, custom fittings, and reverse engineering workflows.

All Slicer Compatible

Output is compatible with Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Simplify3D, Lychee, Chitubox, and every FDM, SLA, and SLS slicing software.

About PLY to STL Conversion

Why convert PLY to STL?

PLY is the standard output of 3D scanners and photogrammetry software. It stores dense point clouds, meshes with vertex colors, and per-vertex properties. STL is the universal 3D printing format. A simple triangle mesh that every slicer can process. Converting PLY to STL is the essential bridge between capturing reality and fabricating physical objects: scan, convert, slice, print.

What is preserved during conversion?

Mesh geometry (vertices and faces) is fully preserved in the STL output with consistent face normals. Point cloud data (vertices without faces) is tessellated into a triangle mesh using surface reconstruction. Vertex colors, normals, and other PLY per-vertex properties are not preserved. STL is a geometry-only format storing only triangle coordinates and face normals. The output is a monochrome, watertight mesh ready for slicing.

How to use the converted STL file

The STL file imports directly into Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Simplify3D, Lychee Slicer, Chitubox, or any 3D printing slicer. Scale your model in the slicer, select material and print settings, slice, and print. For large scan files, consider decimating the mesh before conversion using MeshLab or our Mesh Decimator tool.

How to Convert PLY to STL

Three steps to transform your 3D scan PLY data into 3D-printable STL files.

1

Upload Your PLY File

Drag and drop your .ply file from a 3D scanner or photogrammetry software. Both point cloud and mesh PLY files are accepted. Free tier: up to 50MB.

2

Convert to STL

Our cloud engine tessellates point clouds, reconstructs surfaces, and writes watertight binary STL with correct face normals for reliable printing.

3

Slice & Print

Download your STL and import into Cura, PrusaSlicer, or Bambu Studio. Scale, slice, and print. Files auto-delete within 1 hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Upload your PLY file from a 3D scanner (Artec, EinScan, Creaform) or photogrammetry software (Agisoft, RealityCapture). Our converter tessellates point clouds into watertight mesh surfaces and writes binary STL output. The STL imports directly into Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, or any slicer  scale, slice, and print.
Yes. You can convert up to 3 files per day for free with files up to 50MB each. For unlimited conversions, 500MB files, and batch processing, upgrade to Pro.
Our converter produces manifold, watertight STL meshes. However, if the source PLY has holes, non-manifold geometry, or open surfaces, the output may inherit these issues. Always inspect the STL preview in your slicer. Use our Mesh Repair tool for any problems before printing.
Vertex colors are not preserved STL is a monochrome geometry-only format storing only triangle coordinates and face normals. If you need colored 3D prints, export to OBJ and use a slicer with multi-material support (PrusaSlicer with MMU, Bambu Studio with AMS), or convert to 3MF format which supports colors.
Yes. For point cloud PLY files (vertices without faces), our converter uses surface reconstruction to generate a triangle mesh. The quality depends on the point cloud density and uniformity. For best results, ensure your scan has dense, evenly distributed points with minimal noise.
Absolutely. All uploads use TLS 1.3 encryption. Files are processed in isolated cloud environments and auto-deleted within 1 hour. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.
Free users: 50MB. Basic: 100MB. Pro: 500MB. Team: 1GB. Scan data can be very dense consider decimating large scans before uploading for the free tier.
