Why Convert GLTF to OBJ?

glTF is the web delivery format. OBJ is the universal editing format. Convert web assets into clean meshes for every 3D application on the planet.

Artistic Editing

OBJ imports into ZBrush for sculpting, Substance Painter for texturing, and Blender for modeling. Convert glTF assets into editable meshes for creative workflows.

3D Printing

Convert downloaded glTF/GLB models from Sketchfab, Poly Haven, or online stores into printable OBJ files for Cura, PrusaSlicer, and Bambu Studio.

Texture Extraction

Our converter extracts all texture images from glTF and outputs them alongside the OBJ+MTL. Reuse PBR textures in your own material workflow.

Universal Compatibility

OBJ is readable by every 3D tool ever made. From legacy software to modern game engines. Your glTF models become accessible to the entire 3D ecosystem.

About GLTF to OBJ Conversion

Why convert GLTF to OBJ?

glTF 2.0 is the modern standard for web and real-time 3D. It carries PBR materials, animations, scene hierarchy, and compressed geometry. OBJ (Wavefront) is the universal static mesh format. Clean, text-based, and supported by every 3D application and 3D printer. Converting glTF to OBJ extracts the geometry from the web-optimized format into a universal format ready for modeling, sculpting, texturing, and fabrication.

What is preserved during conversion?

Mesh geometry, all UV map sets, and vertex normals are fully extracted. Textures are saved as separate image files and referenced by the companion MTL file. PBR material data is simplified to basic diffuse/specular in the MTL, the baseColor texture maps to diffuse, but complex PBR shader graphs (metallic-roughness, normal maps, occlusion) are not directly supported by OBJ/MTL. Animation, skeletons, and morph targets are not preserved since OBJ is a static format.

How to use the converted OBJ file

The OBJ+MTL+textures package imports into Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, Substance Painter, and any OBJ-compatible application. For best visual quality, reassign PBR materials in your target tool using the extracted textures. For 3D printing, import the OBJ directly into Cura, PrusaSlicer, or Bambu Studio.

How to Convert GLTF to OBJ

Three simple steps to extract editable OBJ meshes from glTF models.

1

Upload Your GLTF File

Drag and drop your .gltf or .glb file. Both text-based glTF and binary GLB are accepted. Free tier: up to 50MB with 3 daily conversions.

2

Convert to OBJ

Our cloud engine reads glTF scene data, extracts mesh/UV/material/texture data, and writes clean OBJ+MTL output. Textures are saved as separate files referenced by the MTL.

3

Download & Edit Anywhere

Download your OBJ+MTL+textures package and import into any 3D application or 3D printing slicer. Files auto-delete within 1 hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

glTF 2.0 is the modern web standard it carries PBR materials, animations, skeletons, and scene hierarchy in compact JSON/binary. OBJ is the universal static mesh format plain text vertex/face lists with MTL material files, supported by every 3D tool and 3D printer ever made. glTF is optimized for efficient delivery; OBJ is optimized for universal editing and fabrication.
Yes. You can convert up to 3 files per day for free with files up to 50MB each. For unlimited conversions, 500MB files, and batch processing, upgrade to Pro ($9.99/month).
PBR data is simplified to basic diffuse/specular in the MTL file. The baseColor texture maps to diffuse, and all textures are extracted as separate image files. OBJ/MTL does not support PBR workflows (metallic, roughness, normal, occlusion channels). For best visual quality, reassign PBR materials in Blender, Substance Painter, or your game engine using the extracted textures.
No. OBJ is a static mesh format that does not support animation, skeletons, skinning, or morph targets. Our converter extracts only the mesh geometry. If you need animation in your output, convert to FBX instead using our GLTF to FBX converter.
OBJ files import into Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, Cinema 4D, Houdini, Substance Painter, Unreal Engine, Unity, Godot, Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, and virtually every other 3D tool. OBJ is the most universally compatible 3D format.
Absolutely. All uploads use TLS 1.3 encryption. Files are processed in isolated cloud environments and auto-deleted within 1 hour. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.
Yes. Our converter accepts both .gltf (text-based) and .glb (binary single-file). Simply upload your file and it will be converted to OBJ with the same quality and fidelity. Embedded GLB textures are automatically extracted.
