Why Convert GLTF to FBX?

glTF is the web standard. FBX is the game dev standard. Converting bridges web assets into professional production pipelines.

Game Engine Import

FBX is the preferred import format for Unreal Engine, Unity, and Godot. Convert web-optimized glTF models directly into your game project with materials and transforms intact.

DCC Compatibility

Import converted FBX into Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, MotionBuilder, Cinema 4D, and Houdini. glTF goes from web format to professional DCC pipeline in one click.

Animation Transfer

Preserve skeletal animations, skinning data, and morph targets. Our converter maps glTF animation channels to FBX animation curves for motion and rigging workflows.

Material Conversion

glTF PBR metallic-roughness materials map to FBX materials for rendering and VFX pipelines. Base color, metallic, roughness, and normal data all transfer accurately.

About GLTF to FBX Conversion

Why convert GLTF to FBX?

glTF 2.0 is the Khronos Group's open standard for web and real-time 3D. It's the format of choice for three.js, Babylon.js, Google Model Viewer, and AR applications. FBX (Filmbox) is Autodesk's proprietary format. The industry standard for professional game development, VFX, and animation pipelines. Converting glTF to FBX brings web-optimized models into the full-featured DCC ecosystem: rig, animate, render, and integrate with established production workflows.

What is preserved during conversion?

Mesh geometry, UV coordinates (all sets), vertex normals, scene hierarchy, and object transforms are fully preserved. PBR materials (baseColor, metallic, roughness, normal, occlusion, emissive) are converted to FBX material properties. Skeletal animation data, skinning weights, and morph targets are mapped to FBX equivalents. glTF-specific extensions (KHR_lights_punctual, KHR_materials_transmission) are preserved where the FBX format supports equivalents.

How to use the converted FBX file

The FBX file imports directly into Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, MotionBuilder, Blender, Unreal Engine, Unity, Cinema 4D, and Houdini. For game engines, drag the FBX into the Content Browser (Unreal) or Project window (Unity). For animation work, the FBX carries skeleton and animation curves ready for editing in Maya or MotionBuilder.

How to Convert GLTF to FBX

Three simple steps to bring your web-optimized glTF models into professional production pipelines.

1

Upload Your GLTF File

Drag and drop your .gltf or .glb file. Both text-based glTF and binary GLB are accepted. Free tier: up to 50MB with 3 conversions per day.

2

Convert to FBX

Our cloud engine reads glTF JSON/binary, extracts mesh/materials/animation/scene data, and writes Autodesk FBX binary output with PBR materials and animation curves preserved.

3

Import Into Your Pipeline

Download the FBX and import into Unreal Engine, Unity, Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender. Files auto-delete from our servers within 1 hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

glTF 2.0 is the Khronos Group's open standard the "JPEG of 3D" designed for efficient web delivery, mobile, and AR/VR with native PBR support. FBX is Autodesk's proprietary binary format the industry standard for professional game development, VFX, and animation with full support for rigging, complex materials, and established DCC tool integration. Converting glTF to FBX bridges the web world into production pipelines.
Yes. You can convert up to 3 files per day for free with files up to 50MB each. For unlimited conversions, 500MB files, and batch processing, upgrade to Pro.
Yes. Skeletal animation data, skinning weights, and morph targets from glTF are mapped to FBX animation curves and skin clusters. Keyframe and skeleton data transfer accurately. Complex glTF animation extensions may be simplified in the FBX output.
Yes. glTF's PBR metallic-roughness workflow (baseColor, metallic, roughness, normal, occlusion, emissive) maps to FBX material properties. Texture references are preserved. FBX's material model differs from glTF, but the visual result in your target application should closely match the original.
FBX imports into Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, MotionBuilder, Blender, Unreal Engine 4/5, Unity, Cinema 4D, Houdini, Modo, and virtually every professional DCC application and game engine.
Absolutely. All uploads use TLS 1.3 encryption. Files are processed in isolated cloud environments and auto-deleted within 1 hour. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.
Yes. Our converter accepts both .gltf (text-based with external .bin/textures) and .glb (binary single-file container). Simply upload your .glb file and it will be converted to FBX with the same quality and fidelity as text-based glTF.
